Marbella (Spanish Marbella) is a city and municipality in Spain, part of the province of Malaga, as part of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. The municipality is located in the region (komarki) of the Costa del Sol-Occidental. It occupies an area of 117 km ². Population - 136 322 people (for 2010). The distance to the administrative center of the province is 58 km. Saint Bernabe is considered the patron of the city. The famous resort on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Costa del Sol. 4 km from Marbella is the fashionable port of Puerto Banus.
Marbella - it's expensive clubs, high-end car headlights, champagne splashes, smells of expensive perfume, pathos beach parties and luxury villas. The local golf courses built for the visit of noblemen are rightly considered one of the best in Europe. The TV stars and glossy magazines run on the polished wall. However, all this does not mean that mortals have to enter Marbella. The resort has reasonably priced three to four star hotels and a variety of beaches, and of course there is something to see: behind all the idle vanity is the centuries old heritage of the once provincial fishing village. The mountains protect Marbella from the north wind and create a special microclimate of the recreation area. It is always a few degrees warmer than in neighboring cities.
The most important historical and cultural center of the city is the area of Los Naranjos, which concentrates amazing monuments - built in 1568, the city council building with the Municipal Museum, which houses objects of archaeological excavations, the home of the royal governor with a gallery and a magnificent carved balconies decorated with iron ornaments in the Gothic Mudejar tower chapel Ermita de Santiago and the beautiful Renaissance fountains and the Santa Maria de la Encarnacion - a majestic church of the XVII.
An attractive tourist destination is the Puerto Banus harbor area, ideal for walks and photo sessions. Here you can admire snow-white yachts, book an interesting sea excursion or simply relax in one of the cozy restaurants and sample seafood specialties. On the territory of the port there are also preserved historical buildings, the most interesting being the old tower. In the evening, the port area is transformed beyond recognition, on its territory the most popular nightclubs and discos open to rest and have fun in which it is possible to the morning.
In Marbella, there are many interesting symbolic monuments, among the unmarried women is the monument to Don Juan very popular. If you believe a beautiful legend, then all the women who will avoid this monument will find and marry their chosen one within a year. The monument is located near the coast, on a small hill, from the surroundings you have a wonderful view of the harbor.
The beauty of nature and the familiarity with other outstanding monuments can be combined with a walk in the park of Alameda. It is the largest and most beautiful park in the city, on whose territory hundreds of tropical plants and flowers grow. An interesting feature of the park are beautiful benches decorated with traditional Andalusian tiles. There are comfortable hiking trails along the park area, among the exotic plants in the park you will also find many interesting sculptures.
Next to the park begins the world famous Avendida del Mar Boulevard. His main decoration is the sculpture of Salvador Dali, which is presented here without fences. All comers can approach the sculptures, touching them and taking pictures of all the comfortable positions. On this boulevard is a very comfortable and beautiful hiking area.
An important historic object for the city is the Town Hall building, which has retained its unique original features for over a hundred years. Now in the historic building is the Municipal Museum, which houses a priceless collection of archaeological finds. The museum is particularly valuable for the collection of exhibits from the Neolithic and Paleolithic periods, it is visited not only by ordinary tourists, but also by professional scientists.
